Fire burn and cauldron bubble

As a kid, I used to bake some rather unfortunate “cakes” which could easily be used as beach tennis balls. Fortunately my cooking skills have improved over the years, and although I stayed away from baking for a very long time, I have come to appreciate the strict rules of baking a perfect cake, especially the rule that says you have to measure EVERYTHING EXACTLY. Once you do this, the outcome is worth enjoying and certainly worth the fight with your family for the last slice..

I started this blog as a form of a diary to document my experiences with living in Barbados, as they relate to food and the challenges that can come from creative cooking on such a small island. There are times when you have to go to three branches of the same supermarket to get all the ingredients for one recipe! Sometimes it’s impossible to find some ingredients all together… I have officially given up my search for ground cardamom, and ground sage is easy to find, but fresh? Not so much.

I started a catering company called Kitchen Witch in July 2010. As it stands, I am currently the only employee, however that does make for easy boss/employee relations… So my blog will also feature some of the events that Kitchen Witch covers.

I also want to speak of food and food related events on the island. Being a country so influenced by European, African and Asian cultures, we have a varied cuisine - from gourmet to just plain home-cooked good, and everything in between.

I hope you enjoy my posts, and that they encourage you to cast some of your own spells in your kitchen!
